Prime & Composite Numbers

  • 12= 3 x 4, Here 3 is a factor of 12, and 12 is a multiple  of 3.  4 is another factor of 12. In the same way, for 12, there are six factors in all. They are 1,2,3,4,6,12 as 12=1x12, 12=2x6, 12=3x4.
  • A number with exactly two factors-1 and itself is called a prime numberExample: 2 has only two factors -1 and 2. So, 2 is a prime number.
  • Prime Numbers between 100-200 are 101, 103, 107, 109, 113, 127, 131, 137, 139, 149, 151, 157, 163, 167, 173, 179, 181, 191, 193, 197, 199.[21]
  • A number with at-least   three factors(more than two factors ) is called a Composite number. Example: 12 has six factors-1,2,3,4,6,12. So, 12 is a composite number.
  • 1 has only one factor. i.e. 1. So, 1 is neither a prime number nor a composite number.
  • Even Numbers  : Multiples of 2 or numbers divisible by 2 = {  2,4,6,8,10,.... }
  • Odd Numbers: numbers which are not multiples of 2 =  { 1,3,5,7,9,........ }
  • Sum of any two even numbers is an even number.
  • Sum of any two odd numbers is an even number
  • Sum of an even number and an odd number is an odd number.
